What is Happy Head’s “The Kitchen Sink” (Topical Dutasteride + Finasteride)?

Happy Head’s “The Kitchen Sink” is a topical medication that combines topical dutasteride with topical finasteride. Oral finasteride is an FDA approved medication for treating hair loss. It is the generic name for the brand Propecia®. Oral Dutasteride is an FDA approved medication used to treat enlarged prostate and has been used off-label for treating male pattern hair loss. Clinical studies have shown that oral dutasteride has a better efficacy in treating male pattern hair loss compared to oral finasteride. Topical dutasteride + finasteride is Happy Head’s latest innovative breakthrough and it works very similarly to oral dutasteride and finasteride to combat hair loss. Happy Head’s topical dutasteride + finasteride is a compounded prescription grade medication that combines two of the best prescription grade medications used to combat hair loss in a special proprietary topical formulation. In addition, the formula is fortified with minoxidil, retinoic acid and hydrocortisone in a special aloe base formula. In clinical study of topical dutasteride + finasteride, patients saw results as early as 90 days1 whereas typically patients see thicker, fuller hair around 6 months when each drug was used alone by themselves. Dutasteride + finasteride medication is a prescription medication, so a medical consultation is required. Happy Head includes the medical consultation for free!

How Does Topical Dutasteride and Finasteride Work?

Finasteride and dutasteride are a class of medications that are referred to as the 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. 5-alpha reductase (5AR) is responsible for converting the testosterone hormone into another hormone called dihydrotestosterone, also known as DHT. DHT is responsible for shrinking hair follicles and causing male pattern baldness. By blocking the production of DHT, dutasteride and finasteride prevent hair loss. Clinical studies have shown that dutasteride is approximately three times more potent than finasteride in inhibiting type-2 5AR and 100 times more potent in inhibiting type-1 5AR. Clinical studies have also shown dutasteride to be more effective in treating male pattern baldness than finasteride. Majority of studies on taking oral finasteride and oral dutasteride daily have shown that it takes about 6 months for patients to see less hair loss and fuller thicker hair. However, a study by Rafi et al demonstrated that when topical dutasteride was combined with finasteride, patients started to see clinical improvement as early as 3 months.
